How does soju taste like?

July 09, 2015
From Korea Festival, that took place on June 13 at the Agrykola park, I brought a few products, and more specifically - beverages. It was a few cans of Milky, bottle of Maehwasu (plum wine in a lovely package - click) and soju from brand Chum Churum.
In South Korea there are plenty of companies producing this drink, some of them are reportedly even bearable. But I just got Chum Churum, the second most popular brand in Korea, straight from Seoul.

Chum Churum (처음처럼) as wikipedia says, means "like the first time". I really wish that it does taste like the first time. In fact, it's disgusting.
It contains 18% alcohol and 100% pure mineral water. And it tastes just like vodka diluted with water. I don't recommend vodka itself and also water. I mean this connection.
I do not like alcohol, but I like to try new things. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. While Maehwasu tastes pretty good, because it is sweet and doesn't stink and the more it doesn't taste like alcohol, the Chum Churum is only suitable for cleaning cosmetics. No kidding, this is what I used it for.
Chum Churum (처음처럼), jak rzecze wikipedia, znaczy "like the first time". Naprawdę chciałabym, żeby smakowało like the first time. W rzeczywistości jest obrzydliwe.
Zawiera 18% alkoholu i 100% pure mineral water.

But it would be kind of silly use the whole 360ml for decontamination lipsticks, so I tried something else. In Korea, is also popular something calls somaek (소맥), which is a combination of beer and soju, usually in proportions - a glass of beer and a shot of soju. Surprisingly, such mixture tastes a lot better than the "drink extracted from distilled rice". It has the taste of beer that you drank but that is several times more powerful, so the man gets drunk faster. However it dosen't make any sense.

On the label is shown the image of Korean actress - Go Joon Hee. Soju is very popular in Korea, because it's incredibly cheap, and at the same time strong. The price of one bottle is about 3,000 won, so about 3$. To my surprise, it's also very heavily promoted in the media.
Na etykiecie widnieje wizerunek koreańskiej aktorki - Go Joon Hee.

Soju is one of the most popular alcoholic beverage in the world, which is the solution of every problem in dramas. Couples always end in bars and get drunk and then wear each other on their back. It's more a curiosity than something for everyday use. I wonder why Koreans love it and everyone else hate it.
To raczej ciekawostka, niż coś do codziennego użytku. Ciekawe, dlaczego koreańczycy go uwielbiają, a wszyscy inni nienawidzą.

Although you know, in a half a bottle you don't even think about taste.
